DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) registration is the system Indian telecom operators use to record which businesses send SMS, under which sender IDs and with what message text. Yes, it is mandatory for every business that sends commercial SMS in India.
What you register
- Entity: your business, once. You get an Entity ID (PE ID).
- Headers: the sender IDs customers see, such as BSMSIN.
- Templates: the fixed text of each message, with {#var#} for changing parts.
- Links and callback numbers used in messages, which must be whitelisted.
Where to register
You register on one operator portal: Jio TrueConnect, Airtel DLT Connect, Vodafone Idea Vilpower or the BSNL portal. Your details are shared with all operators. Most portals charge a one-time entity fee, commonly around ₹5,900 including GST, but fees can change.
