    Guide

How to write a DLT template that gets approved

Follow these rules and most templates are approved the first time.

    • 1. Type {#var#} exactly

Lowercase, with a hash on both sides and no spaces. {var}, {#VAR#} or [name] will not work.

    • 2. Add your brand name

Include the business or brand name that matches your DLT entity, so customers know who sent it.

    • 3. Pick the right category

Offers go in promotional. Order updates and reminders go in service. OTPs and bank alerts go in transactional.

    • 4. Keep enough fixed text

A template made mostly of variables is often rejected. Each {#var#} usually holds up to 30 characters.

    • 5. Whitelist links and numbers

Whitelist every URL, APK link and callback number on your DLT portal. Avoid public link shorteners.

    • 6. Send exactly what you registered

Spaces, punctuation and line breaks must match. Only the {#var#} parts can change.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is a DLT template?

A DLT template is the fixed text of an SMS that a business registers on a DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) platform before sending. The parts that change for each customer, such as name, amount or OTP, are written as {#var#}. Operators block any SMS that does not match a registered template.

Why do DLT templates get rejected?

Common reasons are a missing brand or company name, the wrong category (for example offers in a service template), wrongly typed variables such as {var} or {#VAR#}, too many variables with little fixed text, shortened links, and links or phone numbers that are not whitelisted.

How do I write {#var#} correctly?

Type it exactly as {#var#}, in lowercase, with a hash on both sides and no spaces. Each {#var#} usually holds up to 30 characters. Use one {#var#} for each changing value, and keep enough fixed text so the message makes sense on its own.

Which category should I choose: promotional, service or transactional?

Choose promotional for offers and marketing, sent only to non-DND numbers between 9 AM and 9 PM. Choose service implicit for updates a customer expects, such as order and delivery alerts, service explicit for messages that need customer consent, and transactional for OTPs and bank alerts, which banks and similar entities use.

Why does my SMS fail even though the template is approved?

The text you send must match the approved template exactly, apart from the {#var#} parts. Extra spaces, a changed word, a different line break, a value longer than 30 characters or a link that is not whitelisted will make the message fail. Use the "Match a test message" box on this page to check.

Do links and phone numbers need whitelisting?

Yes. Since late 2024, operators block SMS that contain URLs, APK links or callback numbers that are not whitelisted on your DLT portal. Whitelist your full domain and numbers, and avoid public link shorteners.

Is this DLT template checker free?

Yes. The checker is free and runs in your browser, so the text you paste is not sent to our server. It is a helpful pre-check and does not replace the final review on your DLT portal.
