Our commitment
Spam hurts the people who receive it, damages trust in SMS and WhatsApp, and puts every honest business at risk. We protect our customers and their customers by enforcing this policy strictly, together with the TRAI Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2018 and the rules of telecom operators, DLT platforms and channel providers such as Meta.
What we treat as spam
- Promotional messages sent to people who have not given consent, or who have registered their preference on the national DND registry
- Messages sent to purchased, rented, scraped or shared contact lists
- Messages that do not match the sender ID and template approved on DLT
- Promotional messages disguised as transactional or service messages
- Messages sent outside the hours permitted by TRAI for promotional traffic
- Repeated messages to people who have asked you to stop
- WhatsApp messages sent without opt-in, or in breach of WhatsApp Business policies
Consent and opt-out
- Send promotional messages only to people who have clearly agreed to receive them from your business, and keep records of that consent.
- Make it easy for people to stop receiving messages, and stop messaging anyone who opts out.
- Use transactional and service routes only for genuine account, order, delivery and security information that the recipient expects.
- For WhatsApp, collect opt-in before messaging and follow WhatsApp's rules on message types.
DLT and TRAI rules you must follow
- Register your business entity, sender IDs (headers) and message templates on a DLT platform before sending.
- Send only the exact approved template text, with your values in place of each variable.
- Use the correct header suffix for each message category (promotional, service, transactional or government).
- Whitelist URLs, APKs and call-back numbers used in your messages, as required.
- Send promotional messages only between 10 AM and 9 PM, unless the rules allow otherwise.
Content we never allow
- Phishing, fake KYC or account-blocking alerts, and messages impersonating banks, government bodies or brands
- Fraudulent offers, lottery and prize scams, fake job offers and investment or crypto schemes
- Unlicensed betting, gambling and online games of chance
- Loan offers from unregistered lenders, and recovery messages that threaten or harass
- Adult, obscene or sexually explicit content
- Hate speech, threats, harassment and content promoting violence
- Illegal drugs, weapons, counterfeit goods and anything else unlawful in India
- Malware, shortened links that hide malicious websites, and links that have not been whitelisted
How we monitor and enforce
We use automated checks and manual reviews to spot spam, including unusual sending patterns, high complaint rates, content checks and operator feedback. If we find or reasonably suspect a violation, we may, without prior notice and without refund:
- Hold or stop campaigns and block sender IDs or templates
- Suspend or permanently close the account, including reseller and client accounts
- Share details with telecom operators, DLT platforms, regulators and law enforcement, as the law requires
Reseller partners are responsible for making sure their clients follow this policy.
Report spam
If you received an unwanted message sent through Bulk SMS India, tell us at support@bulksmsind.in with the sender ID, the message text, the date and time, and the number it was sent to. We will investigate and act quickly.
You can also register a complaint with your telecom operator by calling or sending an SMS to 1909, or by using the TRAI DND app.
