How business SMS works in the USA
US mobile networks treat business messages (called A2P, application-to-person) differently from personal texts. Brand-name sender IDs are not supported. Your messages go from a phone number that has been registered for business use, and the carriers filter traffic from numbers that are not registered.
There are three sender types. Most businesses use a 10DLC number (a normal 10-digit US number registered with your brand and use case) or a toll-free number that has passed verification. Short codes (5–6 digits) give the highest throughput but cost more and take longer to set up. We help you pick the right one and prepare the registration details before you send.

- Consent firstOpt-in before the first message, as TCPA requires.

Frequently asked questions
Can I send SMS to the USA from India?
Yes. Bulk SMS India sends SMS to US mobile numbers for businesses in India and abroad. Messages go from registered US numbers (10DLC, toll-free or short code), because US carriers filter business SMS from unregistered senders.
Can I use my brand name as the sender ID in the USA?
No. The USA does not support alphanumeric sender IDs for standard business SMS. Name your brand inside the message text instead, and send from a registered US number.
What is 10DLC?
10DLC (10-digit long code) is a standard US phone number registered for business messaging. You register your brand and each use case (campaign), and carriers set your sending limits based on that registration.
Toll-free or 10DLC: which is better?
Toll-free numbers work well for OTPs, alerts and moderate volumes, with a simpler verification process. 10DLC suits ongoing alerts and marketing from a local-looking number. Our team helps you choose based on your use case and volume.
Do I need consent to send SMS to US numbers?
Yes. Under the TCPA and carrier rules you need a documented opt-in before the first message, and you must stop messaging anyone who replies STOP.
How long does US SMS registration take?
Usually a few days to a few weeks for 10DLC and toll-free numbers, and longer for short codes. Start early if you have a fixed launch date.
How much does it cost to send SMS to the USA?
Cost depends on the sender type, registration fees and your volume. Contact us with your use case and monthly volume for a quote.
